Do You Know What It Feels Like to be Hungry?

Do you know what it feels like to be hungry?

Did you know your body tells you when it's running low on fuel? Do you know what hunger feels like in your body?

It’s really important that you do. Honoring your hunger is the only sustainable way to get over binge-eating.

I didn't know what it felt like to be hungry until I started to pay attention

When I started to pay attention, I learned that for me, hunger feels like a feeling of emptiness right below my sternum. It feels like a pang in my belly. And hunger also manifests as my mind starting to wander to food... That's how my body tells me it needs fuel.

For my friend, hunger manifests as getting distracted and losing focus on what she's doing.

For you, it might be something like that, or getting a bit of a headache, the stereotypical rumbling in your stomach, or irritability (#hangry).

All this means is: you're hungry — your body needs fuel so it can function.

Do you know what it feels like to be hungry? Learn to pay attention. Only then can you finally get over binge-eating.

If you're not sure what hunger feels like in your body, I recommend Video 2 of my training series. It covers why it’s important to pay attention to your body’s hunger signals, why paying attention to your hunger signals is vital to getting over binge-eating, and how to do it.

About Holland Hettinger

Hi, I’m Holland Hettinger, and I help women stop binge-eating. I believe your life doesn’t have to revolve around food. Your mind can think about something other than what you eat. You don’t have to shrink yourself and hide your body. There is an alternative to food guilt and body shame. And none of it includes dieting, meal prepping, weighing yourself, or forcing yourself not to binge-eat for just one—more—day. (Insert sigh of relief here.) Through training videos, coaching emails, and one-on-one work, I teach women to stop binge-eating for good.
